Course information

Imagine you are lost in a strange city, and you have to get to the airport. What would you do?

Maybe you ask someone for directions. This would be fine, except the second person you ask gives you conflicting instructions. Maybe you don’t even speak the same language.

Perhaps you buy a map, except it’s missing important contextual information about your journey to the airport. Maybe there’s construction on the roads or train tracks, so the route is different and you don’t know the detour. Maybe you opt for a taxi, but in fact, the bus would be faster because of special bus-only lanes. These are all dependencies, and without the contextual information, there is no way to know the fastest route.

What most of us would do in this situation is open up our favorite map application on our phones and tap in our location with the airport as our destination. Immediately, we get a list of options, with the journey time for different methods of transportation— bus, train, taxi, even walking, and other contextual information displayed. Better yet, sometimes there are even comments from people who have made the same trip before. BPMN 2.0 is a graphical language that allows organizations to ‘map’ out their operations so everyone can see what’s going on and follow along. It also allows users to create clear dependencies and link to other maps, providing a holistic, transparent view of how inputs are transformed into outputs within teams, departments, and across whole organizations.

This course will give you the foundation you need to begin mapping your organization’s operations, for clear, consistent models everyone can follow. To really show you the power of BPMN 2.0, you will be using Signavio Process Manager to get hands-on practice. You use Process Manager like you would your favorite navigation app, it brings the map, contextual information, and suggestions from your colleagues together to create a single source of truth on your organizational journey.
